The 2022 growing season resulted in excellent quality wines from Sonoma County and the Central Coast. Across the state, early rains helped alleviate some of the stress caused by years of drought. A mild winter with weeks of sunny weather led to an early bud break. Mild spring and summer
temperatures allowed for the canopy and clusters to develop a balanced crop. Harvest began ten to two weeks earlier than normal in most areas. Shortly after the onset of harvest, a heat event followed by rain sent wineries and growers scrambling. The Labor Day heatwave brought record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures that lasted nearly two weeks, followed by an unseasonable rain event which created a pause for wineries to catch up. Overall, yields were down but wine quality was high with good flavor and concentration across both white and red varieties.
